Dodge Dart Sport 360 in the April 1976 Car and Drive issue
A Corvette L82, 350 ci,Trans Am 455, C-10 Silverado Stepside, 454, and a Mustang 2 Cobra 2, 302 were picked to see who's the fastest American car.
1. Corvette: 124.5, 1/4:15.3@91.9
2.Dart Sport: 121.8, 1/4:15.7@88.3
3.Trans Am:117.6, 1/4:15.6@90.3
4. C-10: 110.0, 1/4:16.1@84.7
5. Mustang:105.7, 1/4:17.02@78.0
The key to the Darts success is horsepower: 220 net is the most you can buy in any Detroit-made car in 1976. Once you've had your fill of blowing off new Trans Ams, the Dart reverts to its spinsterly alter ego. It's funny to note the Corvette tested, was priced at $10,000. The Dart was $4,800."The Dart Sport is the secret speedster" Car and Driver.  Whistle
