I have a 383 i'm putting together after 10yrs of sitting on bench and i need some help id.ing a part. It's round stamped steel and from the hole u can tell it goes over crank i'm guessing between timing chain and cover but not sure which way it goes? Any help would be appreceated. I feel like a fool for not remembering..lol..

been a few years but if I remember right it goes on with the outer edge away from you or towards the timing gear. It acts as a slinger to keep the oil from splashing onto the front seal. Check this out with someone else as I said, it's been a long time since I was into one. FYI, I was certified Master Mechanic for many years but got out of the field and into heavy equipment many years ago.
Hope this helps
