External Headgasket leak on 440 6-pack?

My father in law has a 440 6-pack in a '70 RR in four speed. When we first started it for the season I smelled coolant burining on pass. side cylinder bank headers. Looks like white coolant stains on pass. head where it meets the deck! Is this a commom issue on 440 six packs, with there high compression ratios. 12:1 I think stock???

Anyone think it might be a head stud instead of a head gasket leak?? Could have the head studs in teh water jacket roted out and started leaking?
