I have a 1970 Cuda with a R code vin number wihich of course indicates it was a hemi car. There are no fender tags under hood and it had a 340 in it last. What are some unmistakeable things I can look for that will tell me if this was truly a Hemi car and not something that someone hung the Vin number plate on the dash

Sorry for my reply!!!  I read your post too fast!

If it is a restored car, check with the restorer.(unless you know that he/she may have cheated while restoring)
If you are the restorer, well.......I don't know!

If only there was a way to track cars through the frame, or body, or dash, or something!!!

vin on title, on dash, driver door decal, builld sheet if 1 is still in car somewhere.if all those #s match compare the didgets on end of VIN to the ones stamped into the driers side cowl and radiator support.if all that  matches up you got yourself somethin.
